Importance of sunscreen for healthy skin
Most people spend fortunes on cosmetic products and on beauty salons to look good but forget one essential product to add to their beauty kit and that is a sunscreen. There are many people all over the world who take sunscreens for granted and suffer immensely for this. A sunscreen is one product that you cannot compromise on if you want your skin to stay healthy and glowing for long. Sunscreen is important not only to keep your skin looking good but also since the harmful rays of the sun can do more harm than just merely leave ugly tan. Read on to know more.
The harmful UVA and UVB rays of the sun causes wrinkling of the skin and too much exposure can even cause skin cancer. Sunscreen not only protects your skin from getting tanned but also from all the other harms as mentioned above. It is thus important that you not only religiously use sunscreen before going out into the sun but also make sure you use a good quality sunscreen that offers a wide range of protection. Any basic sunscreen would offer protection from UVA as well as UVB protection and hence you should consider two factors while buying a sunscreen, as given below:
1) SPF – written as SPF 35, SPF stands for sun protection factor and it is the measurement of how much protection your sunscreen provides you with from the UVA rays of the sun. The more the SPF factor the better but SPF factor of around thirty five is more than enough for daily sun exposure.
2) PA – The PA is the measurement of the protection your sunscreen provides you with from the UVB rays. Written as PA+, the more plus signs there are the more protection it provides.
Apart from the above two factors, you would also have to consider your skin type while buying your sunscreen. There are water based and powder sunscreens that are ideally suited for oily skin types as well as cream based and lotion based sunscreens for dry skin types. It is also important that you buy sunscreens that are water proof such that it stays put even when you perspire or swim or wash your face. However, make sure you apply sunscreen to all exposed parts of your skin and reapply sunscreen after every couple of hours and every time you wash your face or swim or wipe your exposed skin.
